In 1879, Kate Greenaway published a small book of verses and pictures that sold 70,000 copies in its first edition. Her children — self-possessed, unhurried, dressed in soft Regency muslins — showed the Victorians a version of childhood they wanted to believe in. This puzzle brings one of her most beloved garden scenes home, one piece at a time.
The puzzle reproduces Kate Greenaway's Girls Taking Afternoon Tea in the Garden (c. 1887), an original color lithograph created for The Girl's Own Annual, London — three young women in white Regency-inspired dresses and wide straw hats gathered around a garden table set with teacups, a large fruit cake, and a teapot, a lush English cottage garden in full bloom behind them, rendered in Greenaway's characteristic soft earth tones, warm ochres, and sage greens with her signature attention to dress and botanical detail.
