The front and back covers reproduce Wheat Field with Cypresses (1889, National Gallery, London), executed in Van Gogh’s characteristic impasto brushwork during one of the most productive periods of his career — a turbulent Provençal landscape of blues, whites, and golds that remains one of the most emotionally charged works in the history of Post-Impressionism.
