In 1900, Karl Berling documented the botanical services, figure groups, and painted designs of the Meissen manufactory in his chromolithographic atlas Das Meissner Porzellan, published at the bicentenary of Johann Friedrich Böttger's discovery of the Saxon porcelain formula for Augustus the Strong — capturing the soft pinks and blues of the deutsche Blumen botanical designs that transformed Meissen's surface decoration from stylised orientalism into something rooted in the European garden and the natural history tradition; the front cover features Plate 7, a botanical service with delicate floral sprays in the deutsche Blumen style, while the back cover presents Plate 4, a richly decorated service with the characteristic Meissen palette of cobalt, gold, and botanical pink that made the manufactory's wares the most coveted in 18th-century Europe.
