Adolphe Millot (1857–1921) was the celebrated French naturalist painter whose detailed scientific illustrations defined the visual identity of the Larousse encyclopedias — and his fruit and vegetable plates, published in the 1898 and 1900 editions, are among the finest examples of French botanical illustration of the Belle Époque. The front and back covers carry two of his most abundant compositions: over 50 fruit and vegetable varieties rendered with the chromolithographic precision that made Millot’s work the standard reference for a generation of French readers — from heirloom apples and jewel-toned berries to heritage tomatoes and exotic specimens, each documented with the care of a naturalist and the eye of an artist.
