In 1906, Heinrich Harder painted a dinosaur that looked like no dinosaur anyone had imagined before — long-necked, ostrich-like, moving through a Cretaceous landscape with an almost birdlike grace — for Tiere der Urwelt (Animals of the Primeval World), originally published in the German magazine Die Gartenlaube and distributed as a hand-colourised collectible card by the Reichardt Cocoa Company, introducing a generation of children across Germany to the deep past. This puzzle reproduces that image: Struthiomimus in full stride through a lush Cretaceous landscape, rendered in Harder’s characteristic naturalistic style that pioneered the genre of scientific paleoart.
