Henri Rousseau never visited a jungle. He built his from memory and imagination — from afternoons in the Jardin des Plantes, from illustrated books, from the animals he sketched at the Paris zoo. The result was a series of paintings so vivid and so strange that they have never stopped surprising people. This puzzle brings one of them into the playroom.

The puzzle reproduces Henri Rousseau's Tropical Forest with Monkeys (1910), National Gallery of Art, Washington — a lush naïve jungle scene painted in the final months of Rousseau's life, featuring five monkeys among cascading vines and layered exotic foliage in his characteristic palette of deep greens and vibrant reds, rendered in the flat, luminous style that made him one of the most original painters of the post-impressionist era.
