Between 1916 and 1940, A. Fiedler’s Leipzig publishing house produced some of the finest anatomical wall charts of the human eye ever printed — the Wandtafeln that hung in German medical school lecture halls during the Weimar Republic. The front cover presents Schutzvorrichtungen am Auge (Protective Mechanisms of the Eye): lacrimal apparatus, eyelids, orbital bones, conjunctiva, and optic nerve labeled in German medical terminology from multiple perspectives; the back cover presents Das normale und das korrigierte Sehen (Normal and Corrected Vision): the path of light through the normal, myopic, and hyperopic eye with geometric precision, documenting the correction of short- and long-sightedness by concave and convex lenses.
