In 1788, Ludwig Pfleger documented Quercus robur — the English oak — with the anatomical precision of Enlightenment-era botanical science. In 1816, the Danish naturalist Søren Henrik Petersen captured the same tree in full landscape silhouette, in his Studies after Nature with Regard to Landscape Drawing — the oak as it appears to the walker who stops, looks up, and stays a while. Two centuries of botanical attention, held in a single wraparound cover.

The front cover features Pfleger’s 1788 study of Quercus robur: blossoms, acorns, and bark rendered with Enlightenment rigour. The back cover presents Petersen’s 1816 landscape study: a majestic oak in full silhouette, the tree as ancient witness, rooted in time.
